These hdd magnets are extremely fun. You can do so many things with them and they are quite a cool toy. I take all the magnets out of my old hard drives and not only are they useful for fixing the binding of a book, but they are an awesome toy and there are so many different games you can do with them.

Preparation

Before you decide to remove the magnets out a hard drive, make sure that you do not want the hard drive anymore. As soon as you start fiddling with the insides of the hard drive then the hard drive will cease to work and any information on that hard drive will be lost. So if you want to save the information beforehand I suggest you do so.

Removing the Hard Drive Magnets

So you ready to remove the magnets from your hard drive? Great! Let's get to work. First take the hard drive out of your computer Batgirl it is still there) and remove any cables that might still be connected to it. The next step is removing the screws that fasten into the hard drive. Different hard drives have different screws, but hopefully you will be ok with that.

Once you have opened your hard drive you should see a round plate (called a platter). There should also a be a thing called an actuator and actuator head. You can see this all in an image (just follow the resource link at the bottom of this article).

The magnets are found close to the actuator in the hard drive. Depending on the hard drive you may just need to lever the magnets out with a flat-head screw driver. In other cases you may need to take out the screws.

Things you can do with Hard Drive Magnets - Games and Challenges

There are many different things that you can do with these magnets. You can stick two magnets together and have a challenge to see who can pull them apart. This is extremely difficult, because the magnets are very strong. If the two magnets get stuck together and you can't pull them apart then you just twist the magnets till they are like a little cross and then pull them up.

You can fix book bindings and bent pages by leaving the magnets on either side of the book in the correct place. We have also used magnets for a mini soccer game. We get a piece of wood have one magnet on either side and then use a marble as a soccer ball. By moving the magnets underneath the magnet above will move and you can try and score goals. It is quite fun.

Some of the hard drive magnets are strong enough to have them on either side of your hand and the magnet will hold together. There is no end to the things that you can do with them.
