Although high ranking suited connectors are some of the most powerful hands in the game, the middle ranking suited connectors (the ones I will be addressing here) are not as powerful and must be played carefully in order to see a profit. When should you play suited connectors?
Suited connectors are capable of winning big pots. If you make a flush or a straight, usually it will be good enough to take down the pot and a lot of suckers with it. The hands are deceptive in nature, so they are powerful in that respect. Suited connectors play best in the following situations:
-When there are lots of players in the pot
-When the game is loose and passive
-When you are in the blinds with no raises
-When you are trying to deceive a good player
-When you are trying to confuse your opponents
-With that in mind, suited connectors are not a good idea in these situations:
-When you are in early position
-When the game is tight and aggressive
-When the pot most likely will be short or heads up
-When the game has crazy pre flop action
-When there has been a raise pre flop
As you can see, these hands are best used in situations where you can see the flop cheaply and you can make a lot of money in the event you win the pot. They are not to be played every time you get them simply because you have them. You need to analyze each situation and make sure they fit the criteria.
